The Alsace region is favoured by an extraordinary geography and climate. Turckheim, a touristic city close to Colmar, is home to the 12.5 hectares (31 acres) of vineyards from Domaine François BAUR and is the cradle of the family’s winemaking history since 1741. Here, the vine stocks are rooted in three different terroirs, they are tended with a deep love for the grape and a profound respect for the earth and in return they offer marvelous aromas to our famous wines.

With a granitic soil and a favourable microclimate for vines, our vineyards benefit right from the start from exceptional growing conditions. Since 1741, they are tended with loving care by each new generation of the family, who benefits of an ancestral know-how.
The sum of all this knowledge made us choose a recognized cultural method called biodynamie. It is respectful of the terroir and allows us to improve the complexity of our wines and in turn offers the wines of Domaine François Baur a quality stamp.
Le Sang du Dragon – Dragon’s Blood – is produced with grapes grown on the steep slopes of Brand, the name stems from a legend that tells us of dragons who lived up there and when they died their blood fertilized the soil. Those vineyard plots are planted in high density and the yields are small, producing a rich wine with superb concentration. This outstanding wine is than matured in small oak barrels during 18 to 24 months.

Domaine François Baur consists of a vineyard with an exceptional situation, granitic soils with fully south exposure and an average annual production of 70.000 bottles. Thomas Baur can rely on the traditions from past generations and simultaneously look ahead towards the future.
His profound knowledge of his terroir allows him to improve the complexity of the wines he produces.
The high quality of our wines is directly linked to the attention we pay to the vines.

Welcome to the website of Domaine François Baur in Turckheim, we are an independent wine growing family established in 1741.
We offer Alsace wines, Crémants d’Alsace sparkling wines and Eaux-de-vie from Alsace (Fruit and grape skin brandies).
For already 9 generations, know-how and passion have been transmitted from father to son. As winegrowers, our aim is to bring out the best of our grapes and always to improve our production methods.
Our doors are open to the public every day for a visit of our wine cellars.
